An illustration of how the smoke test of sewer systems is designed to work. Artificial smoke is blown into the sewer lines via manholes and the smoke will permeate the ground to expose cracks and deficiencies in the system.

The effect of artificial smoke is often paramount when attending concerts or maybe even walking around the neighborhood on Halloween, however next week it will serve a completely different purpose unlike many may have seen before.

On Tuesday, June 6, the Town of Terry is scheduled to conduct a smoke test of the town's sewer lines in conjunction with Montana Rural Water Systems (MRWS) in an effort to locate breaks or defects in the pipe system.

Basic instructions and information about the upcoming sewer system smoke test in Terry

"The only place it should be coming up out of is other manhole covers. It really shouldn't impact anybody, (but) if they see smoke coming out of some place by their house, they could let us know then if we don't see it."
